  • Helping your senior shine with scholarship videos done right!

Posted on October 29th, 2009 No comments

11In today’s highly competitive and financially challenging environment many parents are turning to scholarship programs to help with their child’s education. Over the years we have helped many parents get their children excepted at universities, colleges and prestigious performing arts academies such as Juilliard.

The process starts with a meeting with one of our producers. The goal of the video is discussed and the on hand assets such as live recordings, games footage etc. are reviewed.
We will discuss different options that can be used to present your child at his or her best. We can utilize footage that you already have to create a highlight reel. Add contact information and shoot additional footage if necessary.

The final video can be uploaded to a website or put on CD or DVD. Estimates are free so give us a call and let us help you get the scholarship that your child is seeking.
  • Could your firm benefit from a online video presentation?

Posted on October 29th, 2009 No comments

A law firm is at its base, a business providing a service. Like other businesses, it must attract the attention of customers and explain the benefits of using their services to their prospects.

A law firm’s unique selling proposition is the feature that makes them different than other firms. Today with competition high, separating yourself from the pack is more important than ever. It might be your customer service, years of experience or specialized expertise that make you a better value than the law firm next door. This attribute is known as your Unique Selling Proposition.

Whatever your Unique Selling Proposition is, it will not benefit you unless the prospect knows about it. That’s where video shines brightly as a communication tool.

    • It gives your firm a perfect presentation every time it’s played.
    • It showcases you at your best
    • It’s available to net surfers 24/7
    • It can be used in on your website, in proposals, emails etc.

A presentation video maybe just the edge your firm needs to give the public your whole story.

  • Allied Video Services Donates a PSA in Support of the Tim Reid Scholarship

Posted on October 29th, 2009 No comments

     91

I know him as “Venus Flytrap” from the show WKRP in Cincinnati but you may know him from “That 70’s show, Simon and Simon, Frank’s Place or Sister Sister”. I first met Tim Reid 3 years ago and have supported his charity each year since with donated PSA’s and at times additional video services.

Each May, Tim and his wife Daphne who is also an actor ( Fresh Prince of Bel Air) bring a group of actors and sports celebrities to Hampton Roads. Will Smith was one of them a few years ago.

The Virginia Scholarship and Youth Development Foundation (VSYDF) is a non-profit organization that had its beginning in 1990 when Tim and Daphne Reid formed the Tim Reid Scholarship Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to create “Universal Understanding Through Education”. The Foundation accomplishes this by raising funds to award scholarships to deserving at-risk and needy high school students.
We here at Allied Video Services are proud to lend our talents to a worthy cause.
Tim says,”Our scholarship recipients are truly trying to make a better life for themselves and their families.  Many are the first in their families to attend and obtain a college education. We currently have twenty-four (24) students attending eleven (11) different colleges and universities. With your help, we can continue to assist these students and many more by continuing to raise funds and making the dream of a college education

  • Client of the Month: City of Portsmouth

    96
We have worked on many projects for the City of Portsmouth over the last several years. Last year we created new opening and closing segments for a variety of city programing including city council meetings, and fire department and police segments to name a few.

We also produced the very well received State of the City Address in 2007 and 2008. You can hear how they felt about working with us on that project here.

We also created the station ID animations for PCTV. Several animations were made featuring the Portsmouth water and the PCTV logo.

This year in addition to the State of the City address, we created a open and close for a new TV show produced by the City of Portsmouth Economic Development Department called, “Portsmouth InSites Your Economic Development Update.”

When watching one of the C.S.I. programs, many are tempted to believe a lot of what they see.

We obviously do not believe that they can solve the crime and convict the guy in less than an hour and do so without getting dirty, going home or eating.

Their cell phones always get perfect reception and they have the fastest internet service in the world. We know from our own experience that this is a joke, but it’s fun to suspend belief and enjoy the show.

But, what about all that technical cleanup and discovery stuff they do with video? Is it really possible to take a frame of video shot at night with a standard security camera and blow up the side mirror on the car to see the reflection of the drivers face as it speeds by at 50 mph…of course not? This kind of stuff is in the category of the five minute DNA test.

Our office occasionally gets calls from law firms asking exactly what we can do with surveillance footage. While not on the “make believe” level of C.S.I. we can help in certain cases. Here are a few services that we have been able to provide for local law firms.

Take time lapse footage and slow it to real time playback speed.

Isolate one of the surveillance views.

    Brighten the video

    Adjust the contrast levels

    Remove the color

Highlight and follow individuals or activities.

Blow up part of the picture

    Apply slow motion

De-interlace and save individual frames for printing.

    Enhance the audio levels.

    Clean Up bad audio segments

    Create copies in multiple formats.

The results that we achieve are dependent on the quality of the footage that we start with. Let us help with your next case.

We promise not to strike a dramatic pose and remove our sunglasses as “The Who” plays “Won’t Get Fooled Again” loudly in the background.

GLDD is the largest provider of dredging services in the U.S. conducting business to maintain and deepen shipping channels, reclaim land from the ocean, and renourish storm damaged coastline.  The company also conducts around 25% of its operations internationally with a strong focus in the Middle East.

Allied Video Services has been producing video training in the area of safety for Great Lakes Dredge and Dock for many years. Our partnership began with a training video produced for the Dredging Contractors of America. From that initial collaboration, we started producing a series of land operations safety videos in both English and Spanish editions. Our latest video that was just delivered was an office safety video that we shot at their Headquarters in Chicago.

At the heart of all of the productions is a vast virtual set and on camera talent. We can easily change the set to reflect the subject matter. This saves tremendously on production costs and gives a professional attractive look as well.

    Allied Video recieves award

For each of the past four years, Allied Video Services has donated considerable time and talent to the production of our American Red Cross of Southeastern Virginia Fundraising Videos.

    Dear Rory,

In every one of the productions, your photographers and editors did a superb job in capturing the emotional side of our Red Cross work in the community. What impressed us most was the time and the commitment you devoted to a production that would build both awareness and support of our mission.

We very much appreciated that first, you took the time to listen. You learned about our services, the audience for the video, and the type of appeals that connect with our donors and supporters and then developed a strategy on how we could best combine local interviews with supporting footage available from out national headquarters. The interviews with our clients, staff and volunteers you enhanced using those virtual sets looked great!

Everything came together in the edit suite with Gary. He is a very talented, creative and patient editor who assembled the words, music and images into a dynamic video which had a major impact on all who saw it.

No other medium could have done this for us, and it brought our audiences a new understanding of our work and helped us build new relationships for future support.

Allied Video Services is always a pleasure to work with. You delivered on all commitments and deadlines and helped the Red Cross tell its story, make its case, and do it all in a way which was far beyond our expectations.   Please accept our since appreciation for your commitment to our success,  and pass along a special thanks to your fine staff who made it all possible!

  • Properly Safeguarding Your Old Home Movie Film Memories for Future Generations to Come

Posted on October 29th, 2009 No comments

composite-copyMany of our customers have had their old home movies converted to videotape in the past. This was a smart move but many are having us reconvert them to DVD. There are several good reasons for this:

DVD does not degrade with each playing like videotape does.

The technology today can produce a superior image to that of years gone by.

Our transfer process is very different from many others you may come across. Here’s 10 reasons why:

    1.  We do all of our own work in house,
so you know where your film is all of the time.
    2.  We do not shoot the film off the
wall or through a box, we use special equipment designed
exclusively to transfer film to video.
    3.  Your film is returned to you after
the transfer just as you gave it to us.
    4.  Your film is edited to remove scenes
that are totally B/W (like leaving the lens cap on).
    5.  We give you a archive copy of your
order at no extra charge for you to put in a safety deposit box.
    6.  We can handle 8mm, Super 8mm,
Super 8mm Sound, 16mm and 16mm sound film.
    7.  We add light instrumental
background music at no extra charge.
    8.  Your order will not get lost in
    shipping.
    9.  There are no additional charges for
    mixing film formats.
    10. We are local so turnaround time is
fast. You know where your order is and who is working on it.

We have been transferring film memories since 1984. We even transferred the entire film library for the MacArthur Memorial. Let us handle your family’s memories today.

ph01739jProperly10 Things You Can Do To Save Your Memories

You probably realize that videotape is fragile and does not last forever. In fact, our office often sees customers who have waited too long to get some of their tapes transfered to DVD. Most of these that are beyond hope are from the 1980’s and  1990’s. As you can imagine, they are deeply disappointed when they realize that the recording of the wedding, first steps or special occasion is lost forever. Here are a few things that you can do to help your tapes survive until you can get them transfered.

    1. Keep the tape completely rewound. This keeps it tight and prevents edge curl.
    2. Exercise the tape once a year by fast forwarding to the end and rewinding. This repacking prevents the bulging and bowing of the tape.
    3. Store the tape in its box to protect it from dust, etc.
    4. Label tapes as to subject and year
    5. Keep it away from magnetic fields such as tv’s and speakers.
    6. Store it on its end with the rewound tape side down to keep the tape tight and prevent edge curl.
    7. Watch them sparingly. Unlike DVD’s, tape media deteriorates a little everytime its played.
    8. Keep tapes at room temperature away from excessive heat or cold.
    9. Break the tabs to prevent accidental recordings.
    10. Transfer to DVD as soon as possible.
  • Spotlight on Local Talent: Charlie Glaize of Va. Beach

Posted on October 9th, 2009 No comments

371One of the best known talents in our area is Charlie Glaize. You may not know him by sight, but his voice is one that all of us can recognize.

When you hear Charlie’s voice, you are hearing the mainstay of his life. From the days of his youth when he would read comic books out loud to his brother (who proved to be his first voice coach, prodding him to do all the comic book character voices), to the practice of ventriloquism in neighborhood shows, Charlie’s voice carried him from one experience to the next.
Charlie went on to study oral interpretation and acting skills in college, helping to start a campus radio station at Ferrum College in Virginia. At the University of Florida, he majored in Broadcasting, graduating in 1972, and also worked at WRUF, a studentrun radio station in the Gainesville community.
After graduation, Charlie worked as a Top40 DJ at WNUE in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, then got a job at Dick Petermann and Associates Advertising in that same panhandle city. He wrote ad copy for both print and broadcast, and also voiced commercials for the agency.
Moving to Virginia in 1974, Charlie worked for an oldies station, WJLY, then the CBNowned station, WXRI.
By 1981, Charlie’s reputation for voicing and producing local commercials for radio station clients prompted him to assemble a demo tape to present to major ad agencies in the region.
Within a year, Charlie had phased out of his radio job in favor of freelance work as both a voice talent and oncamera
    spokesperson/actor.

Over the past two decades, the signature delivery of Charlie Glaize has benefited companies ranging from McDonalds and Ben Hogan Golf Clubs to Comcast Cable and Resortquest. His character voices continue to add fun and listenability to many campaigns.
Now, with his website and several agents working day and night to promote Charlie, his ISDN & ProTools -equipped home studio make him not only more available than many talents, but more accessible, too.

Charlie is no stranger here at Allied Video Services. He is regularly requested by our clients and is the designated company spokesperson for several of them.
You can hear samples of his work at http://avsvideo.com/package/screening_room.html
You can see Charlies website at www.charlieglaize.com
