Well, mental health is not only defined by mental health therapists, but by mental health experts worldwide. Mental health is a state of well being in which the person can cope up with the daily stresses of life, understands his/her abilities, and can contribute positively to his/her community. It includes aspects such as social support, effective communication, effective social interaction, coping skills, problem solving abilities, positive self talk, and attitude change.
One of the most important aspects of mental health is human development. The definition of human development goes all the way back to the earliest years of human history. In the last decade or so, developments in the field of neurology have been very remarkable.
Neurology deals with organizing the brain and the nerves that are associated with human behavior. The major functions that are executed by the brain and the nervous system are speech recognition, eye movement, eye contact, voluntary muscle movements, swallowing, and movement.
Neurophysiology deals with the study of the structures and functions of the brain and nervous system. Some of the most prominent areas of study in neurophysiology include neuropsychological disorders, neuroimaging technologies, and neuroanatomy. Neuropsychological disorders are those that affect the functioning of the human brain such as anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, attention deficit disorder, autism spectrum disorders, etc. Neuroimaging technologies help to examine brain functions at different levels using diagnostic methods such as MRI, PET, and Cerebrospinal fluid imaging.
Interpersonal performance refers to the ability to interact with others. This performance is measured using various interpersonal tasks like communicating with others, listening to them, understanding what they say, making social connections, and so forth. These tasks are performed by looking, touching, talking, listening, thinking, planning, and working.
There is also the concept of neuroanatomy which refers to the study of the connection between neurological and biochemical systems in the brain and the extent to which these systems are affected in humans during brain development and/or when confronted with environmental factors. The relationship between these two domains is vital for understanding how the brain functions. It is important to note that these systems do not always exist in the same way in all individuals.
The field of psychiatry is a very large and diverse field. The definition of this field has evolved over the years to include the many aspects of mental health. Psychiatrists are found in hospitals, private clinics, and they can even be found on the Internet. Some psychiatrists specialize in particular aspects of the interpersonal psychosocial processes that contribute to mental health such as grief after death and relationships.
Most psychiatrists have their own specialties and they work with a number of other disciplines to enhance the patient’s quality of life. Neuropsychologists are concerned with the workings of the brain and the various systems and sub-systems that are involved in the processing of information. These systems control the activities of our brains including our behavior. Our interpersonal relationships with others are affected by the systems that we use to coordinate behavior.
This also includes our emotions. The emotional systems include the physiological components of emotions, such as arousal, depression, fear, stress, anxiety, joy, sadness, optimism, and pessimism. Neuropsychologists’ areas of specialty are cognitive and affective.
